Cimarron Model P Old Model

The Cimarron Model P is patterned after the Old Model. The Model ‘P’ Old Model single action revolver’s design, in turn, was inspired by the 1873 Colt Peacemaker. While it was intended for use by the U.S. Cavalry, it soon became the forerunner and prototype of the Old West’s six shooter. Apart from Peacemaker, The Model P also went by other bynames such as Smoke Wagon, Equalizer, and Hog Leg.

Cimarron Model P

The Model P is the Six-Gun of the Old West

Gunslingers of the period found the Model P well-balanced, sturdy and extremely powerful which made it sell more than other pistols of its class. Famous names of the wild west era packed this reliable firearm, shooters like Bat Masterson, Wyatt Earp, the Dalton Gang, the James-Younger Gang, as well as the Arizona and Texas Rangers.

A whole new generation of admirers were introduced anew to the Model P, thanks to the invention of moving pictures at the start of the 20th century. As the weapon of choice for lead characters portrayed by Roy Rogers, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and other screen gunslingers, the Model P has earned a lasting niche in the six shooter category.

Cimarron Firearms’ exact reproduction of the 1873 Colt Peacemaker is considered as the most authentic and of the best quality. Cimarron gunsmiths also did notable improvements on the Model P’s dependability by getting rid of the weaknesses found in the original design.

  1. I certainly realize Cowboy Action Shooting is widely popular and gives a lot of enjoyment to a great many people. That being said though, to equate it somehow to the Old West seems quite ridiculous.
Using Star Wars type holsters, firing from body positions resembling spastic ducks… what a hoot.

In the Old West,, gunfighters seldom challenged others as they considered it far too risky to risk ones life on mere ego trips. Their guns were most often “ bone stock out of the box “ and Hollywood type holsters did not exist. And “. Cowboys “ we’re not called cowboys. They were called “ drovers “. “ Cowboys “ were the young teenage sons of ranchers tasked with keeping cattle from wandering off on the prairies. Hence the name cow BOYS.

The name Cowboy Action Shooting is a farce. Some fantasy sport dreamed up by individuals intent on recreating something that never happened. Get real fellows.
